A turmeric latte is soothing, tasty, and very healthy for you. This fabulous drink is also called a «golden milk» latte. It’s a traditional «tea» from India and the Indian name for it is «haldee doodh,» which literally means turmeric milk. Below, you’ll find two recipes, along with directions on how to make a turmeric latte. Both are Brandless style and easy to make 🙂 You’ll also find some information about the health benefits.
Frothy Turmeric Latte Recipe — Brandless Style
1 cup milk (or milk substitute like almond milk, cashew milk, soy milk, or oat milk)
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon Brandless organic coconut oil
1-4 shakes (or pinch) or ground black pepper
sweetener of your choice (optional)
Warm your milk to 140-160 degrees Fahrenheit. You want it hot but not boiling or scorched. Milk boils at around 212.3 degrees Fahrenheit, just above the boiling point of pure water. If you don’t have a thermometer, just make sure it doesn’t boil but get it hot.
Add the other ingredients and froth!
If you don’t have a steaming wand or frothing wand, there are a couple of other techniques you can use to get a good creamy froth.
You can warm the milk in a saucepan on the stove on medium heat. Once warm, pour the milk into a glass jar with a tight lid or a thermos. Make sure it fills no more than about one third of the container. Shake vigorously for at least thirty seconds to produce bubbles (froth). The more you shake, the more frothy it will become.
You can also heat your milk in a microwave, add the oil, and then shake it in the same way. Microwave times will vary so start with twenty to thirty seconds and test it. Once you’ve shaken it, you can zap it for ten seconds more to «set» the bubbles so they don’t disappear as quickly. Please note that microwaves do not heat the milk as evenly or in the same way and heating in the microwave doesn’t tend to produce milk that froths as well as heating it on the stove.
This recipe is for a single serving. You can multiple all ingredients as needed if you are serving more than one person.
The black pepper is an important ingredient because it enhances the human body’s ability to derive the full beneficial value from the turmeric.
The coconut oil helps the milk froth more easily and it provides a better mouthfeel.
You may not need to add a sweetener if you’re using cow’s milk because the lactose (milk sugar) in the milk is slightly caramelized during heating and this makes it a bit sweeter.

Health Benefits of a Turmeric Latte
Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The bioactive component of turmeric is curcumin. If you’ve ever seen fresh turmeric root, you’ve probably already figured out it’s in the same botanical family as ginger because it looks like ginger on the outside but it’s bright orange on the inside. An entire book could be written about all the many benefits you can receive from turmeric. Here is a partial list:
– It’s strongly anti-inflammatory so it helps with pain, arthritis, etc
– It helps fight bacterial infections and the viral infections
– It helps lower LDL cholesterol
– It helps ease depression without the side effects of anti-depressants
- It helps prevent type 2 diabetes and helps lower blood sugar naturally in diabetics
– It helps with IBS, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, and other gastrointestinal issues
- It helps ease PMS and helps with other menstrual cycle problems
- It helps eliminate or subdue migraine headaches
- It helps clear up acne and other skin issues
– It helps prevent Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases and helps ease symptoms
– It’s actually been proven to stop cancerous tumor growth… but we need to know more
Bottom line, modern research has made it obvious why turmeric has been so revered by the Indians and other cultures for centuries. We should all try to get more turmeric into our diets and drinking turmeric lattes is an easy and tasty way to do so. If you’re on prescription medications, you may want to check with your doctor if you plan to consume turmeric regularly.
Health Benefits of Golden Milk Mix
Brandless knows what they’re doing. With their Golden Milk Mix, they’ve created a health elixir that’s even more beneficial health wise than the traditional way to prepare a turmeric latte (or turmeric milk). That’s because they’ve combined some of the most well known superfoods on the planet with the turmeric. Lucky for us, these superfoods are also quite flavorful and blend nicely together into a pleasant mildly spicy drink you’ll come to crave once you’ve tried it.
